Former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo has been hospitalized as the result of a heart condition, the governor’s office said Saturday.
Mr. Cuomo, the 82-year-old father of current Gov. Andrew Cuomo , was a three-term Democratic governor of New York state, taking office in 1983 and serving through 1994.
“He is in good spirits and thanks everyone for their support and best wishes,” a spokeswoman for the governor’s office said Saturday.
The office declined to provide details, including which hospital the elder Mr. Cuomo had checked into. Mr. Cuomo and his wife live in Manhattan.
The former governor appeared in public on election night in early November, taking the stage at the end of his son’s acceptance speech for a second term.
Mr. Cuomo made no remarks that evening. After he was introduced by his son, he walked out in front of the crowd with his wife, Matilda, and clasped his son’s hand.
